Touchstone is an Indian based firm. We are into into chikan hand embroidery.

I, the proprietor of Touchstone, Hasan Mohammad Ali, am an ex-Pearl Academy of Fashion (New Delhi, India) student, one of the premier fashion intitutes in India. Before getting into chikan work, I worked for a buying agency called 'Pardesh' in New Delhi, India. At Pardesh , I worked for LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) , the biggest group of luxury products in the world. Kenzo, Christian Lacroix and Celine are some of the designers of this group I worked for. Working for them was a good learning experience. Being a quality conscious person myself, working for them further polished this approach in me.

Chikan is a kind of hand embroidery that is typically done in India. Hand embroidered garments are worn by rich and famous and India takes a lead in that.

The chikan work is perhaps one of the most popular embroidery works in India. It has a certain grace and elegance, which ensures that it never goes out of style.

The work involves different kind of minute stitches. Bakhia (shadow work) , Phanda, Murri, Jaali (Net work) , etc. , are to name a few. Shadow work is done at the back of the fabric to give it a shadow like appearance on the face of the fabric. Jaali is another very important work, which is a part of the chikan embroidery. Jaali/net is made out on the fabric with the help of a needle. It comes out beautifully, specially on fine fabrics. Murri, Phanda, etc. are done on the face of the fabric to give it a raised look.
