You are biding on a bottle of 1984 Naoussa Xinomavro. Xinomavro is the most popular variety of the wineries in Macedonia, Greece. It produces the dark red wine with the label Naoussa. The grapes were cultivated in the charismatic vintage zone of high quality wines in Naoussa (OPAP Naoussa) , on the foot of mount Vermion. They were collected in September 1984 under very good weather conditions and processed to wine at the winery of Naoussa Vaeni, which was formed the year before under consideration of the tradition of wine making.
The wine called ''Naoussa '84'' was placed in new French oak barrels to ripen for one year. 1986 it was filled into bottles and placed into an underground wine cellar, which had constant temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and humidity of 70%, absolute darkness and silence.
It is a versatile variety, which can create different wines depending on the location it is cultivated. It produces red wines, full-bodied with complex aromas and strong aftertaste. Xinomavro, produces powerful wines that are full-bodied, contain therefore more than 12,5% alcohol, are well structured and sufficiently tannic to age.
The wines made form Xinomavro are known for their superb ageing potential and their rich tannic character. Their aromas combine such fruits as gooseberry with hints of olives, spices and dried tomatoes. Wines from Xinomavro are getting smoother during the ageing process, while they remain robust. It used to be the only wine, which could make the long boat journey to America with out any problems. Wine from Xinomavro grapes can age in bottles for longer than 20 years.
