Stick Bone was created by Joseph E. Voss in 2002, and was inspired by my nephew Jacob Ryan Voss. Jake, a skinny little kid, would remind you of a stickman with his skinny little frame and bony arms. Jake could always put a smile on your face, and make you laugh. I remember when Jake and his mother Lori Ann, came to North Carolina to visit me while I was stationed there in the summer of 2003. Jake and I spent two wonderful weeks together hanging out, and spending time together. I remember spending tons of money at the Marine Corps Exchange buying Marine Corps t-shirts, which Jake later handed out to his friends. Jake always loves to see other people happy, even if it means giving up things that most people would cherish. That's just Jake's personality, material things mean nothing, people's happiness means everything.
Sadly, Jake was killed in a car accident on December 27th, 2003. I spent most of my Marine Corps career overseas, and missed out on a lot of Jake's growing up. Those two weeks I got to spend with Jake will forever be in my heart, and I am thankful that God blessed us with someone like Jake. Jake, we all love and miss you.
In Loving Memory of Jake "Mac, Mac, Monroe" Voss.
