SGMW – a joint venture with technical backing from General Motors Corporation support, was established on November 28th, 2002. The three partners are SAIC, General Motor and Wuling Automobile Limited Company.
SGMW was the first approved complete vehicle manufacturing Joint-Venture Company after China’s entry into the WTO. SGMW enjoys the reputation of durability, good appearance and high quality from its customers. In the summer of 2002, SGMW was created after three partners joined and become a modern globally oriented automobile manufacturer. By leveraging General Motors global resources and introducing updated technologies and management experience, SGMW is becoming an advanced manufacturer capable of producing commercial and passenger cars.
In Liuzhou, SGMW covers 790,000 square meters and has a staff of more than 4000. SGMW has an East and a West manufacturing plant with their own modern production workshops: Press, Body, Paint, and General Assembly. It also has a nationally certified Technical Development Center and PhD Scientific Research Base, implementing C3P (CAD/CAE/CAM/PDM) automotive research and projects. The Wuling brand has become one of the most competitive mini cars in domestic market for high quality, creditability, comprehensive sales distribution model and professional service.
Currently, the company produces more than 200 models in five categories, including commercial vehicles, mini cargo truck, crew cab, single-cab pick-up and mini-passenger cars In 2005, our sales volume surpassed 340,000 units with a value of 10 billion RMB. The Wuling mini van now captures 31% of the mini vehicle market. Currently, Wuling vehicles have been exported to more than 38 countries and regions, like Southeast Asia, Middle East, South Africa, West Europe, etc.
On June 1st, 2005, a groundbreaking ceremony for Power train plant was held which will be world class . Two days later, the Qingdao Branch was announced as the base penetrating into the Northern market. With these expansions, SGMW will increase capacity, expand into new markets and link production bases to increase our competitiveness and become the leader of the mini vehicle market.
