Most bamboo flooring is manufactured with adhesives that contain a urea formaldehyde resin. Lower priced bamboo flooring can have formaldehyde emissions around 0.237ppm. Artistic bamboo flooring has one of the lowest formaldehyde emission levels in the industry at 0.0127 ppm. This exceeds most Indoor Air Quality recommendations. When required, we can also produce formaldehyde-free bamboo for an additional cost.
Unlike hardwood floors, bamboo flooring is produced from an extremely fast growing grass instead of from a slow growing tree. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth. In fact, bamboo grows one third faster than the fastest growing tree. Some bamboo species can grow 60cm per day and, within 60 days, reach to 25m in height. After harvesting, the bamboo root system merely will sprout a new shoot the following April, no re-planting is necessary. In addition, unlike traditional hardwoods that are harvested every 40 to 60 years, bamboo can be harvested every 5 to 8 years. Bamboo is also an important factor in controlling erosion. This added environmental benefit is due to the extensive root system that keeps the surrounding soil in place, there by reducing erosion.

During the manufacturing process, almost 100 % of the bamboo is utilized. The material that is not suitable for flooring production is used for many diverse products such as furniture, cabinetry, paper, chopsticks and toothpicks.
