V- nails come in different sharp top -That is, different sharp on their cutting edges designed for either soft or hard wood. The soft wood or PS mouldings ask for a sharper edge than the hardwood.

For softwood and PS moulding, V-Nail should be sharper and cuts through the fibers like a knife to create a stronger assembly in softer woods.
For Hardwood, nails should be blunter and crush through the fibers of the wood. That takes a thicker nail because of the high density.
