Help protect the environment with our beautiful "Green" Lampshades and Swags, made from one of nature's gifts, the Calabash Gourd of Puerto Rico. It is believed that gourds are the only plant which spanned the globe in prehistoric times and, once properly dried and prepared, can last indefitinely. Recycling this rapidly dwindling resource into functional, artistic lighting is the focus here of award-winning artist Andrea Jansen. Each calabash is fully dried (a process taking up to 6 months) , carved, hand-painted, sealed, signed and numbered by Ms. Jansen. Whether a Tiffany-inspired design or custom order, lamps are available with or without fringe, and lighting effects can be achieved with inset glass, (cabachons) , crystals (colored or clear) , and variegated piercings. (All lamps, being natural materials and susceptible to heat, are given decorative venting, which makes for an interesting ceiling ambiance, too. ) Custom orders are tailored to your individual color scheme and fabric sample. Lampshades fit on standard size harps (8", 10" or 12") , so they may be used on your existing lamps. Swag lamps may be ordered with electrical cords and chains up to 18 feet in length. We recommend using (maximum) 40 watt bulbs for safety. No two pieces are identical, so you can be certain yours is unique!
