Description: Stevia Extract is a sweetener from the small (Stevia rebaudiana) plants. Stevia, also called the "sweet herb of Paraguay" , is a perennial shrub of the aster family, with incredibly sweet, small leaves. The dried and ground fine leaves can be used as a natural sugar substitute. The secret of Stevia is revealed in 1931. Stevia contains a compound named "stevioside". Stevioside is 100-300 times sweeter than table sugar and without toxic side effects in laboratory animals.
