Cefazolin has broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Inparticular, it has potent activity against gram-positive eg Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Pneumococcus and gram-negative , eg. . . E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis. Its mode of action is bactericidal.
Treatment of the following infections due to susceptible strains of microorganism (eg Staphylococcus, Streptococcus (including S. pneumoniae) , E. coli, K. pneumoniae and Proteus) ; septicaemia, subacute bacterial endocarditis; skin and soft tissue infection; upper respiratory air way infection (pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis) ; respiratory tract infections, acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, secondary infection of chronic respiratory tract disease; biliary tract infections; urinary tract infection; gynaecological infections; otorhinological infections.
