The long peppers of Indonesia come from slender climbers exclusively cultivated in the island Madura. Strictly speaking, it is the fruits of Piper retrofractum (Javanese Long Pepper) , the family plant is Piperaceae. A slender aromatic climber having flowers in solitary spikes forming small red berries sunken in solid fleshy spike. The cultivation is still made in traditional way.
